Albert L. Baert Editorial Fellowships
The European Radiology Private Foundation announces the Albert L. Baert Editorial Fellowship in 2025.
This editorial fellowship programme is carried out by the Editor-in-Chief of European Radiology, Prof. Bernd Hamm, and aims to provide training in editorial skills, such as manuscript evaluation, manuscript editing, organisation of peer review, manuscript production and publishing, including electronic publication.

Are you passionate about radiology and curious about what happens behind the scenes of a leading radiology journal? Have you ever wondered what it takes to guide groundbreaking research from submission to publication?
The European Radiology Private Foundation announces the Albert L. Baert Editorial Fellowship in 2026.
This prestigious editorial fellowship hosted by the Chief Editor of the ESR Journals and Editor-in-Chief of European Radiology, Prof. Bernd Hamm, is designed to mentor promising candidates for future editorial leadership roles and offers a unique opportunity to gain insight into the editorial work of the journal.
Everything you need to know
The fellowship will consist of an onsite introductory meeting with the Editor-in-Chief hosted in his office in Berlin, and will be followed by a remote training programme under the supervision of a designated Deputy Editor of the journal.
During the onsite stay the fellow will receive a basic personal training and a behind-the-scenes look at the editorial practice. Using hands-on activities, the following areas will be covered:
- Aims and scopes of European Radiology
- How to evaluate a manuscript (new/revised/resubmitted manuscripts)
- Different roles of authors, reviewers, editors
- Managing peer review
- Making decisions
- Publications ethics
Upon completion of the onsite training, the fellows will continue working remotely under the mentorship of our experienced Deputy Editors, being actively involved in all stages of manuscript’s journey transforming research into publication.
Among all applicants, two fellows will be selected and awarded €2,250 to cover expenses. In addition, they will receive free registration to ECR 2026, and an invitation to join the ESR Journals Editorial Board Meeting.
Eligibility & Application
Candidates must:
- Be under the age of 40
- Be a certified radiologist or senior resident with achievements commensurate to the years of professional experience
- Be an active member of the European Society of Radiology
- Provide evidence of research and clinical activity in the field of Radiology by listing first author publications (min. 5 PubMed-indexed articles)

Yves Menu Review Fellowships
The European Society of Radiology announces the European Radiology Review Fellowships in 2025.
Up to 15 candidates will be trained as reviewers for European Radiology by our Editorial Team for a period of approximately 6 months (approximately March to September).
Tasks:
The fellowship will consist of an introductory meeting held at ECR 2025, followed by an online training session where the tasks and assignment will be explained.
The introductory meeting and online training session will be led by the Editor-in-Chief of European Radiology, together with the Deputy Editors.
Over the duration of the fellowship, the fellows will perform reviews of manuscripts, in addition to the reviews carried out by senior reviewers, and will have their work revised and analysed by a supervising Editor. Furthermore, the fellows will be required to support the dissemination and promotional efforts of accepted.
Benefits:
The fellows will become familiar with manuscript handling, methods for analysing scientific papers and criteria for editorial decisions (accept, revise, reject, decline).
At the end of the fellowship period, the fellows will receive a certificate and might remain as permanent reviewers for the journal.
The selected fellows will receive free ECR 2025 registration.

Yves Menu Fellowships 2026
European Radiology Yves Menu Fellowships 2026
Are you ready to take the next step in your academic career and gain deeper insight into the peer review process of Europe’s leading medical imaging journal?
The European Radiology Yves Menu Review Fellowships 2026 are now open for applications!
Up to 15 candidates will be selected to undergo a remote training programme that is designed to shape the next generation of expert reviewers.
The fellows will begin their journey at an in-person introductory meeting led by the Chief Editor of the ESR Journals and Editor-in-Chief of European Radiology, Prof. Bernd Hamm at ECR 2026, where, together with the Deputy Editors of the journal, the tasks and assignments will be explained.
Under the guidance of our Deputy Editors, the fellows will contribute to the peer review process for selected manuscripts. Every review will be carefully assessed by their supervising editor, ensuring high-quality feedback and continuous learning.
Benefits:
The fellows will become familiar with manuscript handling, methods for analysing scientific papers and criteria for editorial decisions (accept, revise, reject, decline).
At the end of the fellowship period, the fellows will receive a certificate and have a chance to become permanent reviewers for the journal, should they be interested.
The selected fellows will receive free ECR 2026 registration.
