Definition

  • fetal weight > 90th % ile for GA, > 4 Kg  at term

Clinical Features

maternal associations
  1. obesity
  2. DM
  3. past history of macrosomic infant
  4. prolonged gestation
  5. multiparity

Diagnosis

  1. maternal history for associated conditions
  2. serial examination (SFH)
  3. investigations (U/S)
  4. U/S predictors: polyhydramnios, T3 AC growth >1.5 cm/week, HC/AC ratio < 10th percentile, FL/AC ratio <20th percentile
Complications

  1. increased risk of perinatal mortality 
  2. feto-pelvic disproportion and shoulder dystocia more common
  3. complications of DM in labour
